Frank Bender puts faces on the dead. A self-taught forensic sculptor, he’s the artist called in when all that’s left of a murder victim are bones. He sometimes helps catch fugitives, too. In the course of a career lasting more than three decades, his projections of how those on the run are likely to age--and disguise themselves--helped police track down the likes of John List, a man who spent 18 years in hiding after murdering his wife, three teenage children and his 85-year-old mother in Westfield, N.J.
