For all the talk of going green, the places in which we work or live are often environmental disasters. Architectural firm William McDonough + Partners, a renowned leader of sustainable design, hopes literally to build a greener world, one project at a time. Founded by Yale-trained William McDonough in 1981, their portfolio of work includes the Environmental Defense Fund executive headquarters in New York City and Oberlin College’s Center for Environmental Studies, as well as these aesthetically pleasing structures, which prove that being green does not have to mean being visually obscene.
