Now isn’t the best time to invest in the car industry. But if you insist, we suggest Hot Wheels. With sales that surged a record 16 percent last year, the cars continue to be, well, hot -- even as the economy is tanking. Mattel, the toy cars’ parent company now has a market capitalization that surpasses General Motors. Take it from Wall Street: the makers of Hot Wheels are worth more than the makers of your wheels. That’s bad news, but not for the boys over 40 and under 10 (usually dads and their kids) who have been flocking to auctions and fairs to swoop up the best cars produced by Hot Wheels in their 40-year history. Check out the goods in this slideshow, which features rare cars that have sold for thousands, nay, hundreds of thousands more than that Prius you’ve been eyeing.
