Danielle Levitt says her portraits of American teens were inspired by a really bad tattoo. At 18, the mark was an ode to a Red Hot Chili Peppers song, and the photographer immediately regretted it. But it was an important part of Levitt's teen identity, she says—and a decade later, it led her to her current project. In "We Are Experienced," Levitt provides a window into today's youth culture: from acne-faced stoners to punks and goths.
