A popular doll's stranger side

In 1959, the first Barbie, cast as a “teenage fashion model,” made her debut at Toy Fair in her zebra bikini. More than a billion Barbies have been sold since then—enough dolls to rival the population of China. An entire industry has grown around collecting the blonde bombshell and all her iterations. In the last fifty years, Mattel has produced Barbies to fit every taste, from high fashion dolls designed by Bob Mackie and Jason Wu to cult classics like Star Trek Barbie. Here are some of the most unusual Barbie creations.
