First popularized in the 1800s by Queen Victoria’s white-lace wedding dress, white wedding gowns have traditionally been a symbol of purity and innocence. But starting with Madonna’s iconic sexed-up wedding gown at the MTV Video Music Awards in the ’80s, trends in bridal attire have taken a very different turn, as brides vamp up their appearance with cutouts, cleavage and coquettish looks.
