There’s no such thing as a perfect election. The latest protests against the re-election of Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are a sure sign of that, but they’re not unique. In the last decade, more and more countries—many in Africa—have put their spin on conducting democratic elections, sometimes with disastrously unsatisfying results. Unless, of course, you’re in Canada, a country known for it’s smooth sailing when choosing successors. Even to their neighbors in the south (hey, that’s us!), perfection is an aberration.
