The Tabloid Trial of ‘Foxy Knoxy’

Amanda Knox was found guilty in Perugia, Italy on Dec. 4, 2009, of the murder of her British roommate, Meredith Kercher and sentenced to 26 years in prison. The Italian court also sentenced Knox's Italian ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, to 25 years. The Italian press gave the case flood-the-zone attention because it encapsulates so many tabloid favorites: bloodshed, beautiful women, (nearly) underage sex, a whodunit, and tropes about the Ugly American.
