The headcount of Tiger Woods’ alleged mistresses is ticking upward faster than unemployment in Detroit, and so is search traffic for the term “mistress.” Since Nov. 29, volume of search hits has quadrupled. But the word is sticking in our craw—mistress? These women? Camilla Parker Bowles’ decades of torturous faith and discretion made a mistress. Mark Sanford’s ill-advised—but genuinely romantic—tone-poems about tan lines and sun-soaked trysts made a mistress. Honey (honies?), trust us: biannual Ambien sex and the occasional booty-text appraising your “blasian” fetish do not a mistress make.
