A Look Back at the Life and Career
Robert C. Byrd--one of the only three senators West Virginia has had in the last 50 years and the longest-serving senator in U.S. history--died at age 92. He leaves a long legacy in Congress, having served as both majority and minority leader and president pro tempore. Politics was Byrd's day job but he also mastered the fiddle, wrote history books, and often quoted literary figures and playwrights, including Shakespeare, Thucydides, and Cato.
