Color photography had been around long before Kodak came out with Kodachrome film in 1935, but it is that signature film that made color images ubiquitous. When we visualize the middle of the 20th century, the reason it looks the way it does has a lot to do with the way Kodachrome captured color, tone, and light. The heyday of photojournalism in magazines like Look and Life was often shot on Kodachrome film, not to mention countless birthdays and family vacations.
