After a few tumultuous years, the fashion house Versace is set to turn a profit for the first time in a decade. Much of the credit for the successful turnaround goes to Donatella Versace and her creative decision making. “When the 2008 financial crisis happened, everyone did safe clothes, thinking people would invest money in an outfit they could wear again and again,” Donatella says. “It turned out the opposite. People with money were looking for special pieces. They want something recognizable, so I captured this feeling early.” One highlight of the company’s new era will be the Nov. 19 launch of Donatella’s Versace collection for H&M. She wanted to re-create “iconic pieces of Versace” for the new line. “I wanted to show the young people what is Versace … If you look very close it’s not the same, but three meters away you really get confused about which one is the original.” Get a sneak preview of the new outfits in this gallery.
