Some pictures are worth more than a thousand words. The National Geographic Society, a crusader in exploration and top-notch photography around the globe, will be auctioning off 200-plus treasures at Christie's this coming week. The offerings, chosen from an archive of 11.5 million pieces, span the natural world's most bizarre geography and wildest fauna, the history of mankind, and the mysteries of deep space. Set to take place December 6th, the auction is the first of its kind for the institution--which is gearing up to celebrate it's 125th anniversary next year. Proceeds from the auction, estimated to be upwards of $3 million, will be dedicated to "maintaining the archives from whence they came," according to National Geographic. Curious ones, take your markāadventure awaits.
