A police officer in New York City has been left in critical condition after being dragged for more than two blocks by a driver trying to flee in a stolen car. The officer, identified as 35-year-old Dalsh Veve, approached a vehicle in Brooklyn on Saturday to question the driver over reports of gunfire in the area, but the driver quickly took off. Veve managed to get off two gunshots but was dragged for two and a half blocks before he was freed when the driver turned down a different street. James P. O'Neill, the city’s police commissioner, said the driver of the stolen car later crashed it and abandoned it, and an unidentified teenager was taken into custody after turning up at the hospital with a gunshot wound believed to have been caused by Veve’s weapon. Several other people were also taken in for questioning, though no details were released on their identities or role in the incident.
