The famous Algonquin Hotel, home to the round table that drew some of the biggest literary figures in the 1920s, is becoming a Marriott. It will be the first hotel in New York City to be part of the Marriott Autograph Collection, although a Marriott spokesperson said the company is “actively seeking” other locations. The Algonquin Hotel, located in midtown Manhattan, hosted a group of journalists, authors, and other literary figures for years. The management also welcomed other artists, and even steadfastly allowed composers Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe to continue to work on their musical My Fair Lady despite the complaints of guests. It first opened in 1902 and was declared a New York City landmark three years ago.
