Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, publisher of The New York Times from 1963 to 1992—and then chairman of its parent company until 1997—has died at the age of 86. Sulzberger, who passed the reins on to his son when he retired, is credited with transforming the paper into a national brand, notably overseeing its Pulitzer Prize-winning publication of the Pentagon Papers in 1971. "You're not buying the news when you buy The New York Times," Sulzberger famously said once. "You're buying judgment."
