When President Obama tapped John Kerry to be his second-term Secretary of State, it seemed like he had chosen someone as cautious as himself. But five months in, it’s clear that the biggest divisions in the administration’s approach to foreign policy are between…Obama and Kerry. After it emerged this week that Kerry argued in favor of strikes on Syrian airfields, those divisions have come into sharper focus. It all boils down to ideology: while Obama holds a distanced, “do no harm” approach to conflicts in the Middle East, Kerry seems to favor direct intervention. Come on, guys.
