President Obama is on damage control: Yesterday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton compared Mexico’s drug-cartel epidemic to Colombia’s violence in the '80s and '90s, causing Mexican politicians to get upset. “It’s looking more and more like Colombia looked 20 years ago,” Clinton said, of Mexico’s problems. No senior official, according to the BBC, has ever made such comparisons. Perhaps it’s no surprise, then, that Obama took back Clinton’s comments in an interview with the Spanish-language newspaper La Opinion, saying, “Mexico is an ample and progressive democracy, with a growing economy and because of that you can’t compare what is happening to Mexico with what happened in Colombia 20 years ago.”
