Obama may regret saying that the Cambridge Police “acted stupidly” by arresting Henry Louis Gates Jr, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said on Friday. “I think he would regret if realized how much of an overall distraction and obsession it would be,” Gibbs said, referring to the fallout the President’s comments have received in the media. Cambridge police were dismayed at Obama’s statement, but Gibbs did not suggest whether the President would apologize for his remarks. He reiterated the President’s support for law enforcement, adding: “I think he’s said most of what he’s going to say on it.”
