President Obama is stepping up rhetorical pressure to push his $900 billion stimulus plan through Congress. Announcing his new Economic Recovery Advisory Board this morning following the release of stark unemployment numbers (7.6 percent nationwide last month), Obama said: "It is inexcusable and irresponsible for any of us to get bogged down in distraction, delay or politics as usual while millions of Americans are being put out of work. Now is the time for Congress to act." In the Senate, about 20 key moderate lawmakers were working on a compromise that could cut $100 billion from the plan. A vote come could this evening.
