Six days after the House voted to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, President Obama officially signed it into law Thursday. Obama dedicated the ceremony to the “millions of women” who are victims of sexual and domestic assault. Initially passed in 1994, the bill provides funding for programs targeted at preventing and prosecuting domestic and sexual violence. The revised version of the law includes a multitude of new programs, including more rights for Native Americans, gay, lesbian, and transgender victims.
