At a health-care forum last week, President Barack Obama suggested that the White House would be starting a farmer’s market outside 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The market would sell food grown in the White House garden, and also food from area farmers and producers, with the additional goal of getting fresh produce into Washington, D.C., public schools. Speaking about the potential market, Obama added that not only would it give the District of Columbia “more access to good, fresh food, but it also is this enormous potential revenue-maker for local farmers in the area.”
