In the latest chapter of The New Republic’s curious assault on Occupy Wall Street, editor-at-large Franklin Foer writes today that the left-wing movement could spell trouble for President Obama. The incumbent’s reelection campaign is set against the backdrop of hundreds of angry protestors camped out in lower Manhattan—and they apparently see Obama as an enemy to their cause. “Many of the complaints with Obama unfairly view him as a central villain in the crisis, rather than a disappointingly ineffectual foe of it,” writes Foer. The rallies will likely diminish enthusiasm for Obama’s candidacy, and could even spur a primary challenge. Demonstrators may unwittingly be helping a Republican occupy the White House.
