Ocean temperatures off the Central California coast had "remarkable" warming during July's first three weeks, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Due to these temperature spikes, fish and sea nettles were experiencing "unusual encounters." The first six months of 2014 were the hottest ever in California, researchers say, not helping with a prolonged drought in the state.
