Why is Sarah Palin smiling so fondly on Christine O’Donnell? Perhaps because O’Donnell’s victory in Delaware proves that Palin can be the Republican Party’s nomination for president in 2012, according to Ben Smith. If a right-wing candidate like O’Donnell can win a Republican primary in a moderate state, then so can Palin. Smith adds that “O'Donnell's showing in November, though, will be important to Palin's prospects, and could hurt her as much as this week's results helped.” If O’Donnell breaks 40 percent, Smith says “that’s enough to give encouragement to a Palin bid.”
