Ty Thompson, the principal of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, is reportedly under investigation in connection with the handling of last year’s deadly shooting, sources at a school staff meeting told the South Florida Sun Sentinel on Thursday. Thompson was not at the school at the time of the shooting on Feb. 14, 2018, but a commission launched to probe the tragedy reportedly found him to be “uninformed about threats and other student safety matters.” The school district previously hired a law firm to investigate the actions of three assistant principal and a security specialist, who have since been replaced after the district found “numerous failures” in how they handled the mass shooting that left 17 people dead. The newspaper reports that it is unclear if the same firm will be used to investigate Thompson. During the course of the probe, Thompson will reportedly step out of his role to supervise recovery efforts while a former Stoneman Douglas principal will take over his duties.
