Bronx residents, keep your eyes open for a peacock, and not the NBC one. A female peacock, or “peahen,” is on the loose after escaping the Bronx Zoo Tuesday—and has been spotted at a subway station and on a major highway. “We’ll get her eventually,” said Nancy Clum, the zoo’s curator of ornithology. Peacocks roam freely at the zoo, and Clum said they’ve been known to wander away but they usually come back on their own. Three zoo workers wielding nets made an attempt to recapture the bird around noon as she sat perched on top of a parked van on Morris Avenue—and she flew off as soon as the handlers got close. The peahen was spotted outside the 180th Street subway station in the Bronx and then later dining on a discarded hamburger bun before walking into several lanes of traffic on the Bronx River Parkway.
