Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said, "I take the Russians at their word" after he was asked at a press conference Wednesday whether Moscow was being straightforward about their air strikes in Syria. Carter had said no Russian air strikes were observed in ISIS-controlled areas, contrary to Vladmir Putin's recent excuse that he would help Bashar al-Assad fight the Islamic State. Carter continued, saying that the Russians had only said they would deploy and use military force in Syria.
