A Pennsylvania pet-supply farm froze and gassed small animals to death, a report by PETA alleges. Petco, PetSmart, and Pet Supplies Plus all allegedly received hamsters, rabbits, gerbils, chinchillas, and ferrets from the company. The small creatures were stored in plastic bins and stacked in drawers, the animal-welfare group said. “Their screams could be heard across the room,” the document says. PETA officials claim representatives from Petco were seen at a Holmes Farm location as recently as Jan. 5, despite the fact that Petco says it severed ties with the supplier. Holmes Farm is allegedly under investigation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
