Natural gas company PG&E Corp. has been ordered to pay $1.6 billion as penalty for a natural gas pipeline explosion that killed eight people in 2010 near San Francisco. The company committed 2,425 violations of safety rules over several decades before the explosion and faces an additional $1.13 billion in federal fines. PG&E has also vowed to spend another $2.8 billion in improvements to pipeline safety.
