Democratic Rep. Chaka Fattah was indicted by federal prosecutors on corruption charges Wednesday morning, specifically a racketeering scheme related to his failed 2007 bid for mayor of Philadelphia. Fattah was charged with four associates in a 29-count indictment. Two of the congressman’s advisers have already pleaded guilty to corruption charges, and his son was charged with corruption last year. Fattah was re-elected easily despite the ongoing investigation. In these charges, Fattah’s wife—a local NBC News anchor—was named as an unindicted co-conspirator. The complaint also alleges that campaign funds were used to pay off his son’s college loans. In Washington, Fattah told Capitol Hill reporters that he denied any wrongdoing, would not be resigning from Congress, but will step down from his House Appropriations Committee post.
