Despite threats that Ukraine would launch a “full-scale anti-terrorist operation” against pro-Russian forces early Monday morning if they did not surrender the buildings they seized in Sunday’s clashes, the protesters haven’t budged. Ukrainian interim President Oleksandr Turchynov vowed not to let the eastern part of the country fall to pro-Russian forces as Crimea did. After clashes with pro-Russian protesters, Ukraine was unsuccessful in attempts to retake Slovyansk, a city of 100,000 people some 80 miles from the Russian border. One officer was reportedly killed in the clashes. Ukraine has vowed to weed out the “armed terrorists.”
