Progressives hope their One Nation Working Together march on the National Mall Saturday will draw thousands, rivaling the Tea Party’s events for strength in numbers. More than 400 groups are supporting the planned four-hour rally, which will feature speeches and music. Benjamin Jealous, head of the NAACP, a major organizer of the rally, says the goal is to show Americans are concerned about a “lack of civility in public discourse,” and that marchers are unified in wanting to work through differences to solve the country’s problems. Jobs, justice, and education are the main focus of the demonstration. The rally is supported by diverse groups that don’t normally work together, such as conservative black churches and gay-rights groups, for example, or a miners' union and environmental groups.
