Popular British crime and mystery writer Ruth Rendell died on Saturday, according to her publisher Penguin Random House. She was 85. Rendell had suffered a serious stroke in January. Rendell was perhaps best known for her Chief Inspector Wexford novels, along with dozens of other books (many authored under the pseudonym Barbara Vine).
