Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s two-year spiral may be finally coming to an end. French prosecutors made a bid on Tuesday to drop the charges of “aggravated pimping” against the former head of the International Monetary Fund who had once faced rape charges in the U.S. He had initially also been charged with gang rape, but the charges were dropped after the prostitute withdrew her claim. Prostitution is legal in France, and Strauss-Kahn admittedly attended swingers’ parties, but he said he had no idea the women were prostitutes and he insisted he had not pimped them out. Strauss-Kahn, 64, had been a Socialist Party leader and a favorite to win the French presidency before he was accused of raping a maid in New York in 2011. Those charges were eventually dropped, but not before tarnishing his reputation.
