The American missionary who allegedly attempted to smuggle 33 Haitian children out of the country after the January quake may be facing a six-month prison sentence, if a Haitian prosecutor gets his way. Laura Silsby was charged with trying to put together “irregular travel” for the children. The plan was to take those children to an orphanage she had under construction in the Dominican Republic, but she, along with nine other American missionaries, was stopped before doing so. According to Silsby’s attorney, the judge will make a ruling in a few days. Because of the January 12 earthquake, there may be mitigating circumstances.
