It was only a matter of time. “Rebekah Brooks: The Movie” has been announced in Cannes, with Rocky producer Gene Kirkwood saying it will be based on a recent Vanity Fair article called “Untangling Rebekah Brooks.” Like the article, the film will trace her rise from News of the World secretary to editor in chief and Rupert Murdoch’s right-hand woman, as well as her fall in connection to the hacking scandal. The Vanity Fair article on which the film will be based described Brooks as a the “fantasy daughter” of Rupert Murdoch and an ambitious woman who used her “magnetic attraction” to maneuver her way to the top. The film is still in development stages, though Nicole Kidman has been suggested for the title role. Brooks was charged Tuesday with “perverting the court of justice.”
