President Donald Trump will no longer be hiring two lawyers who were named last week as recent additions to his legal team in the ongoing Russia investigation, his lawyer said Sunday. “The president is disappointed that conflicts prevent Joe DiGenova and Victoria Toensing from joining the president’s special counsel legal team,” Jay Sekulow, Trump’s personal lawyer, said in a statement. Conflict-of-interest concerns had reportedly arisen earlier over Toensing's representation of another Trump figure in the Russia investigation, Mark Corallo, the former spokesman for the president’s legal team. Two sources cited by The New York Times also said Trump had complained he didn’t have personal chemistry with DiGenova and Toensing. The choice of DiGenova prompted criticism last week for his reported history of claiming the FBI and Justice Department are trying to frame Trump in the Russia investigation. Sekulow’s announcement came hours after Trump took to Twitter to say he was “very happy” with his current legal team and did not want to find a new lawyer despite his lead lawyer, John Dowd, stepping down last week.
