Roger Ailes Alma Mater Not Scrapping His Scholarship
FOX TURMOIL
Despite the flood of sexual-harassment allegations that forced Roger Ailes out of Fox News, the 76-year-old former cable-TV chairman’s alma mater has no plans to scrap his scholarship.
Ohio University has offered its Roger E. Ailes Restricted Scholarship since the mid-1990s, and the college features a newsroom bearing his name at its WOUB Center for Public Media. (In 2007, Ailes donated half a million dollars to renovate the facility.)
Despite the recent scandal and lawsuit, Ohio U is maintaining its association with the former Fox News boss.
“The university is aware of this matter and will continue to monitor the situation as it progresses,” university spokesman Daniel Pittman told The Daily Beast in an email. “It is important to note that this is a personal employment matter, and we are not taking a position on matters related to the personal situations of our graduates. The university would not take a position until the matter is resolved.”
The affirmation of the school’s ties to Ailes comes the same day that New York’s Putnam County rejected a $500,000 donation from the TV executive after he allegedly insisted on running a senior center without being held responsible for the work done on it by his hand-picked contractors. Many residents also objected to Ailes’s name being placed on the building. “He’s a bully and morally bankrupt sexual predator,” one resident said.
