Joe Biden is at it again—but this time he’s got Mitt Romney on his trail. The vice president said in China on Tuesday that that country’s one-child-per-family policy is “one which I fully understand—I’m not second-guessing.” He added that “the result being you’re in a position where one wage earner will be taking care of four retired people. Not sustainable.” Presidential candidate Mitt Romney picked up on the comments immediately, calling China’s policy “gruesome and barbaric” and saying, “Vice President Biden’s acquiescence to such a policy should shock the conscience of every American.” The White House quickly issued a response to Romney, saying the Obama administration “strongly opposes” all aspects of China’s “coercive birth limitation policies.” Biden’s comments were during a question-and-answer session focused on U.S. debt and entitlement reform.
