Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh was being transported to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment on Saturday, The New York Times reported, citing two Saudi officials. The announcement follows Friday’s attack on his compound. Saleh blamed the attack on his tribal rivals, the Ahmar family, as fierce fighting between the two sides has been going on in the capital for almost two weeks. Following the attack, officials said that Saleh had only been slightly injured. However, rather than appear on television on Friday, he released only an audiotape, in which he slurred his words, indicating he may have been sedated. Yemeni officials are still denying the Saudi announcement. At least six other Yemeni officials, who had been injured in the attack, were sent to Saudi Arabia earlier on Saturday.
