Sanders Institute to ‘Suspend Operations’ Amid Bernie Sanders' 2020 Campaign

The Sanders Institute, a think tank founded by Sen. Bernie Sanders' (I-VT) son and wife, will wind down its operations in light of the senator's 2020 presidential campaign. In a press release Thursday, the institute announced that it would no longer be “soliciting or accepting donations... to avoid confusion or even the misperception of any overlap between the organization and the campaign.” The think tank also said it would suspend operations by the end of May but would first finish publishing the institute's current projects and other duties in a “period of transition.” It also said its fellows would “continue their policy work” as the Sanders' 2020 campaign ramped up. “We are proud of the work that the Sanders Institute has done to promote progressive solutions...” co-founder and Sanders' son David Driscoll wrote. “That policy work has always been completely separate from electoral politics. We are taking this step in keeping with that core principle of good governance.”
