A Navy SEAL team targeted the leader of the terrorist group al-Shabab in a Saturday morning raid on a base in the beachfront town of Baraawe, Somalia. Reports differed Saturday night on whether the target was captured or killed. The mission, undertaken with the blessing of the Somali government, was meant to diminish the al-Qaeda linked group’s ability to perpetuate further attacks after a massacre at Nairobi’s Westgate mall killed over 65 people last month. A witness said that one Somali man was killed in the attack and claims a dozen other militants planning to go on another mission were staying at the house.
