Republicans care about the deficit, except when they don't: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has introduced a measure to the Senate to permanently extend the Bush tax cuts. The plan would cost the Treasury more than $4 trillion over the next 10 years. "We have a spending problem. We spend too much. We don't have a taxing problem. We don't tax too little," McConnell said. "And if we want to begin to get ourselves out of this economic trough that we're in, the only way to do that is to grow the private sector." On Tuesday, President Obama also got tough on the issue, demanding that Republicans join the Dems "right now," and saying that helping the wealthy doesn't make "any sense."
