More than half of U.S. Senators are millionaires—at least 54 members—according to financial disclosure forms reviewed by Roll Call. Four other senators missed the millionaires' club by less than $100,000. Most senators also saw their fortunes grow in 2009—a tumultuous economic year. Sen. John Kerry, Democrat of Massachusetts, is still the richest lawmaker. He's worth $188.37 million. But the financial reports can be strange: Sen. Herb Kohl, Democrat of Wisconsin, one of the richest members, comes out as the poorest lawmaker—with net worth listed at negative $4.64 million—because of liabilities associated with his ownership of an NBA team.
