Now that notorious war criminal Ratko Mladic has been captured, Serbian President Boris Tadic says that anyone thought to have helped him avoid arrest will be investigated. Inquiries will look at members of the Serbian armed forces and police, Tadic said, alleging that Mladic had the support of “some people in the state system” throughout his 16 years on the run. Tadic also said that Mladic’s many relatives caused difficulties for the investigation; he was found at a house owned by a family member. Mladic was recently declared fit to be extradited for trial, but his family insists he is in poor health.
