Apparently the touch of thousands upon thousands of desperate-for-love tourists is destructive. A statue of Juliet from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in Verona, Italy, erected in a courtyard in the town where the tragedy was set, has been taken down due to the damage done by visitors. The statue, which has stood in the courtyard since 1972, has two cracks from people leaning on it while posing for photographs, as well as many spots worn to a shine. The statue will be moved to a museum, and a copy put in its place. The statue and house of the fictional character are a big money-maker for the town, attracting 250,000 visitors a year.
