Harry Shearer, the voice of Simpsons' characters Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, and Principal Skinner, is leaving the show after 26 seasons. Shearer tweeted the news Wednesday night, indicating a contract dispute was the cause of his departure. “This because I wanted what we’ve always had: the freedom to do other work,” he tweeted. Shearer initially tweeted producer James L. Brooks’ lawyer revealing the news. “Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best.” Fox renewed the longstanding series for two more seasons through 2017, and the rest of the voice cast had signed two-year extensions. Fox could not immediately be reached for comment.
