Yet again, Skype finds a way around the iPhone's limitations: Just months after Apple introduced FaceTime, a video calling feature that works when the phone is connected to a WiFi network, Skype's free app will allow video calls that work both on WiFi and AT&T's 3G network. Released Thursday through Apple's App Store, the new application will let iPhone users make calls to other video phones or computers. Skype is free for computer-to-computer use, and charges users for calls to landlines or cell phones. Over 40 percent of free Skype minutes used in 2010 were video calls. Skype isn't the first third-party app to provide 3G video calling on the iPhone, but its competitors, Fring and Tango, have far fewer than Skype's 124 million users.
