Just as he promised, Lou Snowden, the father of exiled American whistleblower Edward Snowden, has arrived in Russia in hopes of visiting his son. After leaking documents that revealed massive NSA spying and launched a global scandal, Edward Snowden was given asylum in Russia for a year. “I am not sure my son will be returning to the U.S. again,” his father said, expressing “extreme gratitude that my son is safe and secure and he’s free.” Lou Snowden was seen being escorted through Moscow’s airport with his lawyer Thursday, and his comments were played widely on Russian television. Edward Snowden has not been seen in public since he was granted asylum in August.
